Summary....July 2004 was quite a change from the blistering hot Julys central Oklahoma had seen in recent years. Wet ground and lush vegetation from all the rain throughout June and early July helped keep temperatures in check during the mid-month dry spell. It wasn't until the 3rd week of the month that all the vegetation started turning brown. That quickly changed however when wet weather returned to the area on the 23rd. The last week of the month was more like October than July, with temperatures at times struggling to get out of the 70s during the day. Heavy rain fell for much of the day on the 28th, as this part of Norman had more than 2 inches of rain in a single day for the first time in almost 3 years. The high of 73.4 that day was actually reached at midnight, as temperatures stayed in the upper 60s most of the day due to the persistent low overcast and heavy rain.
Turlock CA hasn't seen a repeat of last year's monsoon so far, recording zero rainfall for the second straight month. July marks the first month of the 2004-05 rainfall season.
