Summary....January 2004 brought some temperatures extremes to central Oklahoma the area had not seen in recent winters. We had more days with lows of 40F or higher (8) than the past 3 Januaries combined (5), but we also had more days with lows of 20F or lower (8) than we had the past 3 Januaries combined (7). Most of the month up until the 25th was quite mild, with exception of a short but intense cold snap from the 4th-7th. Our low of 8.1 degrees on the 6th was the coldest temperature recorded here since it got down to 8.6 degrees on Mar 3, 2002. The final week of the month was quite cold with several waves of Arctic air invading the region. Norman finally got some decent winter rainfall, most of which fell from the 16th-18th. Snowfall as usual was minimal, with a light dusting occurring on the 26th and brief flurries on the 5th, 21st, and 30th.
Turlock CA had 1.31 inches of rain in Jan 2004, most of which (.67 inch) fell on the 1st. The season total through the end of the month was 5.36 inches.
