Summary....December 2003 was another dry month for central Oklahoma, and was the third month in a row Norman had less than an inch of rain. The second week of the month was very active in the Norman area. The first thunderstorm in over two months hit the area on the morning of the 9th. Later that same day we had our first snowfall of the season. Only a dusting fell here, but northeastern Oklahoma picked up several inches. Norman found itself on the fringe of another winter storm on the 12th, with a brief wet snowfall that evening that quickly melted. Northern and western parts of the city got up to an inch however, and areas north and west of Oklahoma City received several inches of snow. Norman also experienced six earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 or greater between the 8th and the 11th, some of which were actually felt by area residents. Skies turned a hazy brown on the 15th as dust kicked up from a classic Dust Bowl era type dust storm in New Mexico and Texas drifted overhead. The final 10 days of the month and year were quite mild with not much in the way of subfreezing weather. By month's and year's end green grass was actually starting to sprout up throughout town!
Turlock CA was quite wet in Dec 2003 with 3.23 inches of rain. Rain fell on many days during the month, including on Christmas Day for the first time in 20 years. The season rainfall total for Turlock at month's end was 4.05 inches.
