Summary....September 2003 was cooler and drier than average in central Oklahoma, as a persistent ridge of high pressure over the western United States and a persistent trough of low pressure over the eastern United States kept the region under a northwest flow aloft for much of the month. This pattern brought several unseasonably strong cold fronts through the area during the month, and helped keep severe weather statewide at an absolute minimum.

The overactive monsoon season continued in the San Joaquin Valley of California through the beginning of Sep 2003. Turlock received a trace of rain during an early morning thunderstorm on the 3rd. An unseasonably strong system of northern Pacific origin brought more sprinkles to Turlock on the 9th. Both events occurred during my visit to Turlock early in the month - here are the conditions I recorded during my visit.
