Summary....The beginning of Nov 2002 saw a continuation of the chilly, damp, overcast weather which had persisted in central Oklahoma since the third week of October. Beginning the 5th, the weather abruptly turned dry, and stayed that way for the rest of the month. The .03 inch of rain that fell on the 12th was the only occurrence of precipitation here after the 4th. Temperatures were a bit below average for the month, in part due to abnormally cool weather at the beginning and the end of the month. Some brief spells of warm weather occurred around the 7th-9th and the 21st. The pressure fell to 994 millibars on the 9th, which was the lowest pressure recorded here since Nov 23, 2001. Not coincidentally, each occurrence was followed by a major tornado outbreak in the southern and eastern United States the following day.
Turlock CA finally broke its 170 day rainless streak in November, and did it in spectacular fashion. A grand total of 2.30 inches of rain fell on Nov 7-8 in Turlock, which was the first measurable rainfall there since May 20. My old neighborhood basically turned into a lake during the storm, and pictures of the flooding in this neighborhood were featured in the Nov 9 edition of The Modesto Bee. Aside from another .05 inch on the 10th, no additional precipitation occurred the rest of the month, so the total for the month and the season was 2.35 inches at month's end.
