Although the first three days of the month saw humid, July-like weather, central Oklahoma was more like western Washington in Oct 2002 with many days of gloomy, drizzly, and chilly weather.

I spent the final week of the month in my former hometown of Turlock CA - my first visit there in two years. The town hasn't changed all that much since the last time I visited, except that there are now strip malls, housing subdivisions, and a massive new high school where orchards and cow pastures once existed. And Main Street got a HUGE facelift. And the population increased by almost 10,000. The weather was still the same as it had been for the past 6 months - DRY. Turlock had its first rainless October since 1995, and its streak of days without measurable precipitation stood at 164 days at the end of the month. Quite a contrast to how the weather was in Norman while I was gone, where I found 3.26 inches of rain in my gauge when I got back at 4am on Nov 1. That was the most rainwater I had ever seen in a rain gauge in my 15 years of observing, and quite a shock to someone who emptied about .02 inch of dirt and bugs from a rain gauge in Turlock several days earlier.
