Summary....Although September is usually one of Central Oklahoma's stormier months, the area saw relatively few days with precipitation or thunderstorms in Sep 2002. On the days it did rain, it came down hard. Thunderstorms during the early morning and early evening on the 14th combined to drop over an inch of rain. The storm of the month hit right at midnight on the 19th, and was accompanied by an exceptionally intense display of lightning. The power poles outside my apartment were struck repeatedly during this storm, resulting in three separate power surges between 12:25 and 12:35. This storm swept away the haze and humidity which had been hanging over the area all month, and was followed by several days of clear weather and low humidity. This cooler, drier weather lasted for about a week as warmer, more humid air moved back north into the area the final weekend of the month.

Turlock CA had a trace of rain on the 4th and the 6th, which snapped the 106 day zero rainfall streak. The streak of days without measureable rainfall still stands, and was at 133 days at the end of the month.
