Summary....As was the case for most of the United States except for the Pacific Northwest, Texas, or parts of Florida, temperatures were well above average and precipitation was below average in central Oklahoma in Nov 2001. The first three weeks of the month were exceptionally mild with temperatures seldom dropping below 50F. One reason we had such warm nights the first three weeks of the month was due to abundant cloud cover. This cloud cover obscured our view of the Leonid meteor shower on the 17th-18th. Skies were clear on the night of the 5th-6th for an extremely rare low latitude display of the Aurora Borealis that was visible throughout Oklahoma - provided you were away from city lights. A very drastic, abrupt change to more winterlike weather came on the 27th-28th as the area was blasted by cold north winds and 5-8 inches of powdery snow. However this change was short-lived as the snow took only 36 hours to melt and was completely gone by the end of the month.

Turlock CA was in one of the few regions in the United States that was wetter than average in Nov 2001, receiving 1.89 inches of rain during the month. Total rainfall for the 2001-02 season stood at 2.42 inches through the end of the month.
