Summary....Central Oklahoma spent the month of Sep 2001 alternating between week-long spells of warm, humid, and stormy weather and cool, calm, and dry weather. The first week of the month was especially stormy as thunderstorms struck the area on four separate days. Severe weather affected much of the region on the 7th. A large rotating thunderstorm with a stacked plate appearance developed late that afternoon northwest of Oklahoma City. As afternoon turned to evening a line of thunderstorms filled in to its south all the way to the Red River. This line of thunderstorms hit Norman just before 8pm, turning the sky a sickly shade of orange-yellow, producing continuous lightning, and dropping nickel sized hail. Other strong thunderstorms hit the area during the early morning hours on the 18th and 20th with extremely heavy rain. The weather during the final week of the month was especially pleasant with little in the way of cloud cover, wind, or humidity.

Turlock CA had .24 inch of rain during Sep 2001 - all of which fell during an exceptionally long-duration lightning display the night of the 24th-25th. The total for the 2001-02 seaon is .31 inch, which is well above average for this early in the season.
