Summary....Temperatures were slightly above average in central Oklahoma in Aug 2001 while precipitation was near average. Thunderstorms hit Norman on eight separate days during the month, with two storms that stand out in particular. A cluster of storms developed over Norman on the afternoon of the 10th. Here in the southeast part of the city we had two-thirds of an inch of rain in about 10 minutes, but other parts of the city reportedly had almost 2 inches of rain and 50 mph winds. On the evening of the 25th, continuous lightning flashed to the north and northeast during the Oklahoma/North Carolina football game. The game was delayed for several minutes during the third quarter when a stray lightning bolt struck just south of the stadium. The rain held off until the final seconds of the fourth quarter, which was fortunate since we received over an inch of rain between 10:30pm and midnight.

Turlock CA had no measureable rain during Aug 2001. The total for the 2001-02 season is still .07 inch.
