Summary....July 2001 was proof that Oklahoma can get monotonous weather as well. A strong upper-level high pressure system built into the area on the 4th, sending temperatures in the day into the upper 90s and low 100s and keeping temperatures at night in the mid 70s almost every day this month. The only break came following a cool frontal passage on the 13th, which was followed by low overcast and scattered showers from the 13th-15th (coincidentally the same three days my family was visiting me.) Precipitation was very scarce in central Oklahoma all month, with nearly all of the month's rainfall coming during an evening thunderstorm on the 28th.
The 2001-02 rainy season got off to an early start in Turlock CA, as .07 inch fell there on the 7th. This was only the 4th time measureable rain had fallen there in July since 1987. The .07 inch total also equals the cumulative rainfall total from the previous fourteen Julys (that is, if you add all of the rainfall Turlock measured in July from 1987 to 2000 - that total comes to .07 inch).
