Summary....Temperatures and precipitation were both considerably below average in central Oklahoma in March 2001. A cool, dry northwest flow out of the northern Plains and Canada persisted for much of the month - keeping warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico well south and east of the area. There were three distinct cool spells during the month - one at the beginning of the month, one at the middle of the month, and one at the end of the month. The ice storm that began on the last day of February continued into morning hours of the 1st - as freezing drizzle and fog gave trees and power lines and additional coating of glaze and rime. Powerful west to northwest winds knocked down tree limbs, damaged power lines, and peeled shingles off rooftops on the 15th. The month closed out with several consecutive days of chilly, drizzly, overcast weather. There was even a fairly heavy fall of large snowflakes on the morning of the 26th, but with temperatures at 34-35F snow accumulations were very brief and limited to grassy surfaces and vehicles.
Turlock CA had 2.10 inches of rain during March 2001 - bringing the season rainfall total there to 11.87 inches.
