softball in turlock

Turlock was in the midst of an unseasonable warm spell today, with the temperature reaching 98F this afternoon. Thunderstorms developed to the east over the Sierra Nevada this afternoon. I didn't chase these though. Instead I went over to Pedretti Park this evening to watch my brother Matt "Bern" and his friend Chris "Skool Bird" play some beer league softball. The game was a little painful to watch; I was amazed how hard some of these guys made it look trying to hit a 12 mph underhand lob. Bern and Skool Bird did OK though. They should have, as they've had years of practice hitting those types of pitches off me.....

Bern hits a 46 hopper up the middle to raise his batting average to .836

Skool Bird hits a ball which could have been a home run......at the silo at his dad's farm.....
Remains of the thunderstorms which brought a couple of sprinkles and an 11 mph wind gust to the Sierra Nevada earlier in the day drifted west, producing a nice cirrus shield over Turlock at sunset.
