car wash in amarillo

All hopes for a good chase day today ended before they had a chance to begin. Storms began to fire across the Panhandle shortly after sunrise. Although all the data was pointing to the Panhandle as being the center of the action today, we blew it off figuring the ongoing convection would work the atmosphere over. Instead we opted for the unspoiled airmass further south towards San Angelo, where we figured the mid-level dry punch would help initiate storms. But as we headed south from Lubbock, it become obvious that the dry punch was curving north back towards the Panhandle instead of northeast as we had hoped. To make a long story short we drove all the way back up towards Borger and Stinnett where we watched a nondescript storm quickly wrap itself up in precip - it kept its act together for quite a while despite feeding on some chilly, chilly air. We went back to Amarillo to eat at the renowned Big Texan Steak Ranch, where Shawn promised us he will eat the 72 oz steak next year.

A horizontal roll cloud looms along the horizon near Fritch TX as a line of storms build in the distance.
We arrived in Amarillo around the same time the line of storms did. It dropped about .38 inch of rain at AMA in 7 minutes which turned all of the streets into rivers. Hey Jay, I think those cars in that lot look dirty.
Well Jeff, let's clean them off.
